Showcasing inspired visual art in Cinema505

At Montclair Film, we believe in amplifying the voices of storytellers from all backgrounds. That belief inspired the creation of 505Gallery, a space dedicated to showcasing the work of visual artists.

At 505Gallery, we exhibit emerging and established artists from our community whose work connects with our mission.

Current Exhibition - Andres Chaparro

Andres Chaparro is a mixed media painter and collagist whose bold and expressive art is a visual representation of jazz music. Andres’ interpretive method of creating brings music into the physical world.  His subjects are jazz musicians of past and present.

His paintings celebrate jazz through every free & fluid brush stroke reflecting more concern for spontaneous emotion than traditional conventions with strong color contrast, and distorted subject matter.

Andres’ mixed media collage art is more precise in execution yet also possess a sense of freedom as witnessed in his paintings.  Through the juxtaposed and unique collage style Andres interprets his subjects with both dignity and complexity.

As early as he can remember, music and art have been an important part of his life.  At the age of 13, Andres was introduced to jazz music with which he made an instant spiritual connection.  This was a defining moment in his life as an artist.  While in high school he would make frequent visits to the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum, which opened the world of visual art for him.   He always had an affinity for drawing, but it was the museum visits that made him fall in love with art.

In the late 1980’s Andres began painting on canvas, while completing his studies in New York City.  He explored jazz as an enthusiast and visited SoHo art galleries and other major museums during this time.  Chaparro’s early paintings explored different mediums and subject matters; but he was always drawn back to Jazz inspired work.

Andres paints out of his Windsor, CT studio, and through his work lends his artistic voice to cast light, force, and challenge viewers to analyze his portrayals of social justice and equality.

Andres is featured in the book “Making the Cut, Volume 1, The World’s Best Collage Artists” by Crooks Press in Australia.  His work is collected by art and music enthusiast around the globe and found in permanent public and private art collections.  His artwork has been exhibited in galleries and jazz clubs in Europe, Canada, Middle East, and throughout the United States.  Andres continues to refine his own visual vocabulary through his focus on the intersection between art, music, and social justice.
