Editing Room Assistant (ERA) Training

The Editing Room Assistant is a common entry point into post- production and a critical role on nearly every film and television project. This training prepares participants for entry-level work by focusing on what an ERA actually does and how assistants support an editorial team under professional deadlines. Learn to work with the lead and assistant editors, music editor, VFX editor, and other post production departments.  The training is taught by a working union editor and reflects current industry practices and expectations.

This class does not teach you the ins and outs of how to use editing software– though you will do some work on AVID- but is rather for editors looking to break into the industry who have not yet worked on a major professional union project.

Recommended prerequisites: Adobe Premiere Pro, Davinci Resolve, and/or Avid Media Composer experience.  You do not need to be an expert on the software, but should be familiar with editing.

Allow me to introduce your instructor, Eyal Dimant. Eyal has been working in post-production for film, television, and commercials for over 25 years. From documentary and feature films to reality television, Eyal has built a career as an Editor, Colorist, and Technical Workflow Consultant, collaborating with some of the biggest studios, networks, and filmmakers in the industry.

His credits include work with major studios and platforms such as AMC, HBO, CBS, Universal, Sony, and Netflix. He has had the tremendous honor of working alongside acclaimed directors including Joel and Ethan Coen, Ang Lee, and Greta Gerwig, among others.  Some films he has worked on include: SONG SUNG BLUE, THE BALLAD OF BUSTER SCRUGGS, THE SQUARE and BILLY LYNN’S LONG HALFTIME WALK.
